The Central Reserve Police Force also known as CRPF is India’s largest Central Armed Police Forces. It operates under the aegis of Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) of the Government of India. The CRPF works with a primary role that lies in assisting the State or Union Territories in the police operations to maintain law & order and counter-insurgency.
CRPF came into its existence as the Crown Representative’s Police on 27th July 1939. After the Indian Independence, it became the Central Reserve Police Force on the enactment of the CRPF Act on 28th December 1949. With the 235 battalions and various other establishments, CRPF is considered as India’s largest paramilitary force and has a sanctioned strength of around 308,862 personnel.
