Neyveli Lignite Corporation Limited (NLC) is a government-owned lignite mining & a power generating company in India. NLC manages the largest open-pit lignite mines in India. Presently, NLC is mining 24MT of lignite and has an installed capacity of around 2, 740 MW of electricity. It also furnishes a large quantity of sweet water to the state of Chennai from the artesian aquifers in the lignite mines. On 11th April 2011, NLC had joined the elite group of Navratna Companies. In the year 1956, NLC was formed as a Corporate body.
NLC is also listed on the BSE : 513683 as well as on the NSE : NEYVELI LIG. The Union Government holds around 93% of shares of NLC and is administered through the Ministry of Coal.
